Celebrate National Sisters Day with Your #DisneySide!

Today is a very special day: when we celebrate sisters all around the world! And what better way to celebrate than by showing your #DisneySide?

If you didn't know, I have four sisters (and one brother). All my siblings have code names, to protect their privacy. Three of them are not allowed to be shown on camera, but one of them, The Disney Mermaid, has been featured in many of my videos, which we always have a ton of fun making!

So today, TDM and I are celebrating Sisters Day by sharing our #DisneySide with you with a few of our favorite collab videos!

Watch the 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Teaser Trailer! (Plus, LEGO Version!)

There’s been a lot of hype about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, especially since the first teaser trailer was released this morning!

Thirty select movie theaters aired the teaser today, and it was also released on iTunes and YouTube.



I had my sister, The Disney Smart One, watch it with me, so that she could hypothesize about the new film in the franchise. She had lots to say but to sum up: as of now, TDSO is optimistic.

Kristen Bell Brings Political Twist to Mary Poppins

NOTE: This post has been rated PG-13 for language usage in the included video clip.

Kristen Bell (Anna from Frozen) has added another Disney credit to her list of achievements, but this time, it’s a parody.

And it’s actually pretty darn funny.

In this Funny or Die video, Kristen portrays Mary Poppins who is leaving the nursery, like she does at the end of the Disney film.  However, this time, she’s quitting for good – because of minimum wage.

My favorite line is definitely the last one...which I won't repeat here, for obvious reasons.

So the question is: Mary Poppins is a Democrat?

Maleficent: A Review

TDM and I saw the “midnight” (more like 9:15 p.m.) showing of Maleficent, last Thursday.

When we saw Maleficent on Thursday, TDM wanted to do my nails for me.  (She also planned to do my eye makeup, but thank heavens we ran out of time.)

A Puzzling Achievement

When I arrived home for summer break, my siblings couldn’t wait to show me the latest surprise present from Grandma.  It was a jigsaw puzzle.  And the reason they were so excited to show it to me was because the puzzle image showed tons of Disney merchandise, arranged in a really cool collage.

Called The Disney Treasury, this puzzle consists of 550 pieces (easy, right?) and was distributed by Golden.  Find it for sale here, if you’d like one.  My grandma bought it used from someone, so I don’ know the price, but online it’s being sold for $15 or so.

Well, anyway, the first week and a half home, I spent the time deep-cleaning out my room of any junk and reorganizing practically everything.  So MDF was especially upset because she wanted to get this puzzle started, and apparently everyone had agreed that they weren’t going to start it until I could help them.  I am THE Disney Freak, after all.

One day, my fellow horse-loving friend came over to hang out, as we were both home from college (while all the rest of our MN friends were still in school).  Typically, when she visits, we watch a movie she hasn’t seen yet and do a puzzle.

So as expected, we did a puzzle.

And which one was lying around waiting to be done?

The Disney Treasury.

Of course.

Take a Wild Ride!

Awhile ago, around the middle of April, my friend Bridget and I went to the local thrift shop in Atchison.  My semester was getting to be stressed and not fun for me, so she wanted to have me do something for fun, not for school or work.  And I love thrift stores, so she decided to take me there.

While the overall selection wasn’t as great as other thrift stores, they did have plenty of books and movies!  I got like 12 books, 3 VHS tapes, a Animal Kingdom glass, a present for Bestie, and a present for Roomie all for $4!  I couldn’t believe it.

One of the VHS tapes I got was The Wind in the Willows, which originally was half of the animated feature The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.  This is a classic Disney film, the 11th animated feature in the animated canon, so I figured it would be fun to get it for the kids (as in siblings) to watch and enjoy.

Even though I’ve had the VHS sitting in my dorm room for awhile, I didn’t get home until late Tuesday night.  We watched the movie today – twice!  It’s actually very cute and funny, and I really enjoyed the characters.

Upon doing research on the movie, as I like to learn trivial information and facts about movies I watch, I remembered that there is a ride at Disneyland based on the short film (and there once was a similar ride at Disney World before the Pooh ride replaced it). 

Like the movie, the dark ride is wild and crazy, so the videos on YouTube don’t really do it justice, but you can get an idea of what it’s like.

Sing a Song, Hear a Story

For Christmas 2012, YDF and MDF each found a very cool CD in their stockings, gifts left there by Santa.

For MDF, it was the CD Songs and Story: The Littler Mermaid.

For YDF, it was the CD Songs and Story: Tangled.

I’d seen other CDs in this series at Walmart and Target but hadn’t ever bought one, not really interested.  So when YDF and MDF each got one, I was curious and suggested we listen to them a few days later as we waited for the guests to arrive for our annual New Years Eve party.  Gave them something to do while they waited and gave me something to blog about for later.

My thoughts overall: the CD is great in terms of the story part, where a narrator narrates (no way!) the story of your favorite Disney movie.  However, in terms of the song part of the CD, it seems to depend on the CD you get. 

For YDF’s Tangled CD, the songs were all from the movie and featured the original voice actors.  There was one song that I guess was inspired by the movie, which was fine.  I enjoyed it. 

For MDF’s The Little Mermaid CD, the songs were the originals from the movie but other singers sung the parts.  Which was disappointing.  I’d rather hear Jodi Benson sing “Part of Your World” instead of some random singer they chose.

Otherwise, great CDs, and I’m going to look for some myself.  I really like the story part, especially since each narration is complete with audio clips from the movie.

Is This Enough Room for You?

I shared with you about how my Grandma/Fairy Grandmother gave me the Disney Princess Fairy Tale Songs CD for Christmas.  On the way home from her house (a 3 hour drive), I listened to it on my computer, earphones plugged in, and planned to at least write up some posts, since I didn’t have Internet access as we were driving.

Well, someone (whom you’ve met before) decided he wanted to take a nap, and I moved my computer to give him room.

Mickey Squared

So ya’'ll have known for awhile about my special graduation Mickey Mouse plush. (He will get his own post soon!)

Well about my third week of college life or so, I got a package slip in my mail box.  I asked (okay, texted) MMM if she’d sent me something, but she hadn’t.  As the slip gave me no indication of the sender (it only had my name), I was extremely curious.
But doesn’t curiosity killed the cat?

As soon as I was done with classes for the day, I headed to the library to retrieve my package.  Lo and behold, it was from Fairy Grandmother.  And that made me more curious.

Fairy Tale Christmas Gift!

At the start of December, Fairy Grandmother asked me what I wanted for Christmas.  Not sure, I put off replying (and I was also pretty busy with finals and work).  Then she emailed me again to say that I would get coal if I didn’t let “Santa'” know what I wanted.  Chuckling, I told her that well I didn’t really have a Christmas list this year but thinking quickly I said that I was listening to lots of music lately.  So how about some Christmas albums or anything Disney?

December 23rd.  (The world didn’t end!)  More importantly, gift exchange at my aunt and uncle’s house.  At first, I was confused because I hadn’t gotten a present from Fairy Grandmother yet, just one from my cousin (NiCE’s younger sister).  Fairy Grandmother finally found the one from her to me, and I got to work.

Not surprised, I opened first two Christmas CDs – Elvis and Jackie Evancho.  There was one more gift (well two more but only one was a CD I could tell).  Unwrapping it, I grinned in delight.

Sadly, "Hakuna Matata" doesn't play when you ride him.  (The Beast thinks there's a bit of the song playing.)

The 11th Disney Princess: Verified

Thanksgiving day, YDF, MDF, and I worked on some of their Disney Princess puzzles.

The next day, I was glancing through all the toy catalogs from various retailers.  In the Target one, I found an interesting Disney Princess doll set.

Why am I highlighting this?  Maybe it was pretty obvious that this would happen, but Merida is included in an (*ahem*) official Disney Princess doll set. 

So is Merida going to be an official Disney Princess?  Or is she just being included with official Disney Princesses as a non-official princess?  Will that change (aka question A)?  Several questions arose at the sight of this set, obviously.

Immediately, I called over TDSO (our previous Brave hypothesizer) for her take on this all.  She said that she didn’t think Merida would be an official Disney Princess but because she is a Disney princess, she would be included in a few sets.  Just like when Kida or Nala sometimes appear in Disney Princess merchandise.

However, seems things have changed – or been verified.

Because in July 2013, Merida will indeed join the official lineup as the 11th Disney Princess.

What are your thoughts?  The Disney Mermaid is personally upset because Ariel won’t be the only ginger anymore (and for some other reasons).

As for me, I’m not quite sure what I think right now.  As the Disney Wiki pointed out, Merida will be the first Disney Princess without a love interest, which I’m not against, but all the other Princesses appear with their Princes in some merchandise and at events at the Parks.  Poor Merida will be the odd one (literally) out.  Like The Disney Mermaid, I’m disappointed that they would add in another ginger, and if they’re going to just add any new princess character they add, why not allow Kida to join?  How does Disney’s selection work (hey, that’s another post to work on!)?

New Fantasyland Dress Rehearsal!

Nick Maglio over at Disleelandia (one of my favorite Disney blogs) just went to the “dress rehearsal” of New Fantasyland!  He took lots of great pictures, and there are a few jokes only a Disney fan would know.

His trip—literally, just pack up and go—makes me kind of jealous because it was actually fall break here at Benedictine this past weekend, so I went home.  If only I had a bit more money, I would’ve gone to Walt Disney World instead perhaps!

(Well, maybe not. I did miss Riley and Bestie an awful lot…and my family of course.  A hard choice.)

Just Can't Wait to be...Queen?

While I live(d) in Minnesota, I was actually born in Maryland, unlike my other siblings.  When I was a year old or so, my parents decided to move to Minnesota, as my dad's family all lived there.

And until we bought our own house, we lived with my uncle, aunt, and...Nicest Cousin Ever.

We were young at the time.

And he wasn't named back then of course.  But I can't (or won't, is more like it) use his real name.

Now, NiCE is not a guy who likes Disney.  No.  We used to watch Disney movies together -- we still shout "Football!" during Robin Hood, and a tradition when we visited them was watching The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.  But that's really the extent of his Disney past.  When we'd play with his toy animals (this is years later), he'd choose all the tough animals like snakes and dinosaurs, while I chose to be Kiara, Kovu, and Simba and Nala.

Speaking of The Lion King, the roles used to be...well, a different story.

Rewind back to when we lived with them: me, my mom, my dad, and I.

Our favorite game to play -- we played together a lot since we were young, the parents didn't want to play with us, and we're only three months apart in age (I'm the older one!) -- was re-enacting The Lion King.  The first one.

We'd play Simba and Nala.

Guess who was Simba.

Me.

That's right.

And the male cousin played Nala.

I've decided to call him that.

Anyway, the reason I shared that was because it makes me laugh (gender-switch!) and it's an interesting story about how Disney and I have been connected for a long time.

By the way, I tease NiCE/Nala all the time about this.  Drives him crazy; his favorite excuse is: "I was little then!  And Nala's pretty sweet."

Just Another Off Day

The Disney Mermaid texted me today to tell me about Young Disney Freak and her growing Disney vocab: just had to share.

Note: I edited TDM's texts because I wanted to keep this...professional.

Before dinner, I received her first text:

Young Disney Freak and I were counting for hide and seek when YDF says, "Let's start over.  This is kind of an off day for me."  And I was laughing before I asked, "What did you say?"  So she said it again, added, "From Tangled!" then burst out giggling.

I began to laugh out loud, right outside the Cafeteria!  I have no idea if anyone looked at me, like last time when I laughed at something Disney-related.

She texted me again:

Then I should tell you [because you'll put this on the Blog] that she was sassy when she said it: "You know?  From Tangled?" like I was dumb or something!  Young Disney Freak is teaching The Disney Mermaid!  Even though I knew where it was from.

Can you picture a three-year-old saying that?  I sure can.

Her last text read:

We were playing follow the leader next (today is just full of Disney).  Every time I said, "This is kind of an off day for me," she'd pause, turn around, stare at me, and then burst out laughing.  It was so funny and all-around cute.

Young Disney Freak's tag line: Gotta love.

Kind of hard not to.

Is He Okay?

Another surprise post during my hiatus! MMM and The Beast went out tonight, giving me babysitting duties, so I took advantage of time and four movie-enthralled kids to write this all this.

Hopefully you all know about Finding Nemo's 3D release (which is technically a re-release even though it wasn't in 3D before) this September.  If not, sorry I haven't been keeping you up to date.  Hiatus, remember?  (And on a further note, Finding Nemo 2 coming in 2016.)

As is customary with Pixar's releases, there will be a Pixar short before Finding Nemo 3D.  What short?

Another Toy Story short!

This one will feature Rex as its main character, revolving around his life as a "partysaurus" during his new life as Bonnie's toy.

Entertainment Weekly just released an article online about the new short, giving us a sneak peek with a few pictures.

Notice anything funny (er, fuzzy) about Bonnie (in the bubbles) and her family's toilet?

Somebody should check to see if you-know-who is okay.
