Five4Florida: Spring Break 2014!

Exciting news, ya'll!

In a little less than two weeks, my girls and I will be in Florida for spring break!

That's right: Michelle, Molly, Kaihtlyn and Mary are going to Florida March 9-15, 2014!

Reaction: Can't hold it in anymore!
Sources missing.

Reaction: Worth celebrating!

Reaction: yesyesyesyes!

Reaction: excited dance!

We are super excited about the trip.  It's been a long time in the making, as we realized we will never have time to go on a senior spring break -- Kaihtlyn and Mary are studying abroad different semesters next year, and then the three of us other than Mary are all graduating a semester early.  But while we've been planning this trip since last semester, we only recently got fully approved by all of our parents.

Originally, our friend Tara was going to join us but after some disagreements, she is potentially not coming.

We'll be staying at Kaihtlyn's aunt house in Florida, and Michelle is driving us down there and back.  It's going to be quite the adventure!

Previously, we tossed around the idea of going to Disney World for a day (how can you go to Florida and not go to Disney World?!) but because of financials, that's out of the question.  (Super sad face!)

Of course, I will still blog/vlog for all of you guys here, but we have created a Wordpress blog so everyone can take turns posting for friends and family to see.

So please, keep up with our Five4Florida: Spring Break 2014 adventure by checking out our blog HERE.

SWSA Tribute in Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Back in December, Disney Imagineers placed a piece from Snow White’s Scary Adventures into the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.  If you're unaware, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is replacing Snow White’s Scary Adventures.

These vultures originally appeared in the old ride.

Both images from the Disney Parks Blog post.

Personally, I believe there was probably enough room to keep the old ride AND build the new one, but it’s much too late for that.

Oh well.  In the mean time, I definitely appreciate this clever nod to Snow White’s Scary Adventures.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is scheduled to open some time this year. Book your Walt Disney World trips now with Destinations in Florida* so you can experience this new ride yourself!  CLICK HERE to book!

See you all real soon!

***UPDATE***

Disney Legend Dave Smith confirmed to D23 that the vultures and crane appear at the entrance of the ride. Look for them on your next visit!

I missed these guys when I visited because when I rode, it was 1 a.m.!

Best “Let it Go” Cover. Ever.

I have been watching plenty of covers of the Frozen songs, as I’ve been trying to find the greatest covers to share with you guys.

So I’m totally in the right to say this is the best “Let it Go” cover out there.

Seriously: You. Must. Listen.

Video from YouTube.

Why exactly does this cover blow my mind?

One, all the singers are freaking amazing.  Alex Boye is really cool, and he reminds me of a humanized Rafiki.  The children’s choir sends chills down my spine whenever they start singing.  But the most amazing one of all is soloist Lexi Walker.  Man, does she have an incredible voice, and she’s only 11 years old!

Such a pretty smile!
The instant she started singing, my jaw dropped.

Favorite part.

Secondly, the idea of “Africanizing” the song is pure genius.  One reason I love The Lion King is for all the African chanting put in.  So to add that to one of my new favorite Disney songs is good on my list.  I just wish I knew the translation.

And the kids are just all so cute!  The ones who get to star as Frozen characters have such adorable yet simple costumes (TDM, take note).  These kids were formerly known as the 2002 Olympics choir, and they’ve been doing a lot of professional recordings!  Yay for kid power!

They are all so talented!

Finally, how far is Utah from Atchison, Kansas?  Because I definitely want to visit this ice castle now!

In all honesty, I now believe that instead of Demi Lovato’s pop version (which I strongly dislike, but that’s a post for another time), Disney should have done a version of “Let it Go” with Idina and/or Lexi singing with a child’s choir in the background.

See you all real soon!

(PS: Alex Boye, with all this popularity, will probably put the song iTunes and Amazon, but for now you can buy it HERE.)

Costumes for Festival of Fantasy!

We just got a glimpse at a few of the fantasmic floats coming to Magic Kingdom’s newest parade, Festival of Fantasy (debuting in March this year).

Now we get a look at the (also) fantasmic costumes!

Video from YouTube.

If I were to describe these costumes in two words, those two words would be, simply:

Colorful awesomeness!

Thumbs up!
This is a cool costume, but I have no idea what float it's for!

But obviously there’s more to this post than just that.

Wow, there’s plenty of color and pop in these costumes!  Mickey’s Soundsational Parade is my favorite (by far) for both the music and the costumes.  Well, Festival of Fantasy is looking like a big contender!  Provided that the music is just as great as these costumes!

Honestly, I do love all the costumes in the clip, but my favorite is definitely the “Ravens.”  I’m assuming these winged bad boys will be walking alongside the steampunk Maleficent float.  Man, would I do anything to own one of those pairs of wings!

Similar to the “Ravens,” the fire-themed, phoenix-like costume looks freaking awesome!  No idea what float it could be for, but I’m excited to find out.

I think my third favorite are the revamped Lost Boys costumes.  They adhere to the originals while giving them a more hipster look, which I think works perfectly well!

As for the rest, well: colorful awesomeness!

Disney Infinity: Sorcerer Mickey Available!

Disney Infinity has finally released the Sorcerer Mickey figure!

Can't get enough how awesome his pose is!
Image from everythingdis.com

So I don’t own the game. (Yet.)  But I so want to collect the figures just for fun!  I think they’re so cute, without looking too different from the original designs of the characters.

Plus, Sorcerer Mickey is my favorite form of Mickey Mouse, so I’m pretty sure this figure is a must-add to my collection!

Check out Mickey’s magical powers and how much fun you can have with him when you play Disney Infinity:

Next, watch Keith Lapinig as he plays with Mickey:

The Lion King Kittens!

How many cute kittens can you handle?

I’m definitely a dog person, but as Bestie is (literally) “the crazy cat lady,” I’ve grown to love cats too.

So imagine my excitement to find an adorable kitten version of The Lion King, my favorite Disney movie!  Not only are the kittens great, but the narrator, a young kiddo named Jackson, is pretty cute too with his words!

Video from YouTube.

I lost it at Scar’s “I hate you” thought bubble.  What about you?  What was your favorite part?

The Pet Collective has also done kitten versions of Frozen, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story. I’ll be sure to share them individually as well!

PS: a HUGE thank you to Rebecca Kelly for the beautiful shout-out post she did on my blog!  I really can’t thank her enough.  Be sure to follow her on Twitter!

Disney’s “Frozen” Free Fall: App Review

Right after the release of Frozen, Disney made the Frozen Free Fall app available for free.  The game is a lot like Bejeweled (or for you younger folks, Candy Crush), all with the theme of Frozen – including characters and scenes from the movie.

Image via disneyinteractive.com

When you first open the app, you are shown a map of Arendelle.  If you look closely, you’ll see the route follows the plot of the movie, starting with the ice harvesters to the castle to Elsa’s ice palace and so forth.

A pair of boots shows you which level you are on currently.

Click on a level, and the level’s objectives and available characters pop up.

The first Elsa level! I was so excited:)

Every level is different, and obviously they get harder as you progress through the movie.  But the main goal of all of them is to gain a target score within a set number of moves.  Extra goals and obstacles are added.

So for example, in the level below, not only do I need to get a score of at least 15,000 points, I also need to
remove all the frost by making matches over those tiles.  An added obstacle are the ice-encrusted gems.

2014-01-01-18-30-34

Matches are made by lining up three gems of a kind.  This breaks the gems and gives you points.

So all you need to do in the level below would be to swap the gold crystal with the red one, simply with a swipe of your finger.

2014-01-01-18-26-00
Little Anna!

Special crystals can be also be formed with more than three crystals.  I forget the names of them, but I made up my own.  Lining up four crystals gives you a beam special.  If you use it again in another match, it will send a beam either horizontally or vertically, breaking all the crystals in that column or row.

2013-12-23-19-16-51
Notice how the red crystal towards the middle has a horizontal beam in it, meaning
it will send a horizontal beam when I swipe it with the purple crystal under it.
Little Kristoff is so freaking cute!

The snowflake special is formed when you create a T-shape out of jewels.  It then breaks all the crystals around it, twice, when you use it again.

And the best special is the pointy-ice-star crystal.  It’s a little hard to explain, but when you swap it with, say, a purple gem, it will then break all the purple gems on the board.

Swapping special crystals also does cool things.  So if you get the chance, do it!

Anna!

When you can’t complete a level, you can retry it with the cost of one life.  You start off with five, and if you use them up, all you have to do is wait a few hours and they will have all returned!

Overall, this game is freaking amazing.  Sure, it’s the same as Candy Crush, but it’s really cool to see all your favorite Frozen characters and to journey along the movie’s story.

2013-12-24-22-38-39
Pabbie!

But fair warning, it is really addictive!  My Minnie Mom even comes up to me to ask, “Is my game ready yet?” (when in reality, it’s my game on my phone, Mom).

2014-01-05-20-44-37
Hans!
When my mom unlocked him for me, I literally jumped off the couch and shrieked.

The only downside is that Disney gives you limited quantities of character power-ups (which I haven’t used yet because I’m saving them for when in dire need).  You are able to purchase more power-ups and lives, but that’s ridiculous.  C’mon, Disney, you have enough money to just make the entire game free!

Instead, I’ll just wait a few hours for my lives to refill.  And then play, play, and play again.

You can pick up this app at the App Store (for iPhones) or the Google Play Store (for Androids).

(PS: this is my first app review post!  Let me know if I reviewed this app well and if you have any suggestions!)
