Elsa Braid Tutorials!

As you should know by now, I am absolutely in love with Disney’s FrozenMy favorite character from this must-see movie is Elsa, the Queen of Arendelle.

Below are three tutorials on how to recreate Elsa’s wintry braid for yourself.

If only I had slightly longer hair!

Molly and Mini Maleficent Discuss “Maleficent”

The Disney Freak’s Blog is hurriedly approaching its second anniversary, and I know that for a really long time I have been ranting about how unexcited I am for the upcoming “Maleficent” movie starring Angelina Jolie (due in 2014).

And I also realize that I have been putting off a post with the reasons why I’m unexcited.

I’m not going to be getting to that post quite yet (sorry, again), but I did take the time to do a vlog about why I’m unimpressed (and a bit pissed) about the trailer that came out about a month ago.

First watch the trailer below:

Both videos from YouTube.

Next, watch out this discussion Mini Maleficent and I had about the trailer:

The Disney Freak’s Blog Original Video.

I apologize for how tense I got….

This time, I promise, I will get to that vlog/post about the reasons why I dislike the movie itself.  Until then, please be patient!

Oh, and merry merry Christmas!

Dreaming of Summertime

There’s at least six inches of snow here at my grandma’s house, and the air is cold.  Welcome to northern Minnesota.

But snowman Olaf is dreaming of summer (like I am).

Watch him “imagine what it’ll be like when summer does come” in his song “In Summer,” the whole sequence of which was posted on YouTube by the disneyanimation channel.

Both videos from YouTube.

When I went to see “Frozen,” upon hearing Olaf begin to sing, I at first worried the song would distract from the story and be a cheap attempt at humor.  But I actually ended up really liking it – laughing at nearly every lyric – and it served as a great way for me to start enjoying Olaf and his character.

Favorite lyric: “But put me in summer and I’ll be a….happy snowman!”

Busted out laughing.

Below is an entertaining cover by two young sisters, named Sophia and Bella.  Keep up the good work, girls!

Confession Time (Again)

As a self-declared Disney Freak, of course my dream job would be working for Disney.

One of my Disney dream jobs would be working as a face character at the Parks.

But not because I want to go home and brag about how “I’m friends with Cinderella.”

No, I want to see a child break into a huge grin when he or she sees his or her favorite Disney character.  I want to be the reason for that smile.

I always say, my life goal is to spread happiness in the world.

Hopefully, to start a little spark that will grow and grow until the whole world is ignited.

I want to create some magic.

See ya all real soon.

“Let it Go” from “Frozen”–Incredible!

If you still haven’t seen “Frozen,” here’s one reason why you should: to hear the incredible vocals of Idina Menzel.

To get a glimpse of what I’m talking about, here’s Idina singing my favorite “Frozen” song: “Let it Go.”

Bonus: it’s got the entire animation sequence, giving you a great look at the character of Elsa.  She’s so beautiful and awesome!

Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse!

Today is Mickey (and Minnie) Mouse’s 85th birthday!

On November 18, 1928, “Steamboat Willie” made its film debut, even though “Plane Crazy” was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon screen tested.

It all started 85 years ago today.

November 18 is therefore considered Mickey Mouse’s birthday, though he doesn’t look a day older.

To celebrate Mickey’s big day, here’s a cartoon from 1942 of him and his pals celebrating his birthday!

Confession Time

One of the latest confessions from Walt Disney Confessions is as follows:

Image from waltdisneyconfessions.tumblr.com

I'll admit, this isn't actually my confession but in a way it is.  I didn't send it in, but I actually had the same experience.

When I went to Disney World back in 2008, I didn't have the full appreciation (er, obsession) for Disney that I have now.  While I certainly enjoyed the trip and loved it all -- one of my childhood dreams coming true -- I would enjoy it so much more if I went again.

Which is why three young ladies who live with me...dun dun dun...need to hurry up and make up their minds about next semester.

The Most “Epic Disney Medley” Ever

There are a lot of awesome Disney medleys out there covered by an array of amazing artists.  This one that I’m about to show you: it tops them all.

Image from a Google search.
I recently shared with you a video of Mike Tompkins’ #DisneySideIn the video, he makes every single vocal and sound using his mouth and voice.  It takes “a cappella” to a whole new well, world.

Like Mike, Peter Hollens and Alex G. create every sound with just their vocals in their “Epic Disney Medley,” which you need to watch right here, right now:

Mike Tompkins’ Disney Side

Do you show your #DisneySide?

YouTube artist Mike Tompkins did via this awesome rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star,” which you can view below:

Yeah, that’s right, Disney Freaks: Mike makes every single sound in his music with his vocals!

And I find his version of the classic Disney tune simply and beautifully addictive.  Three words?

Mind-Blowing Transformations!

I have a riddle for you.

How does one make Cinderella transform from rags to evening gown in front of a live audience?

Stumped?

Well, here’s one answer:

funny-gif-Disney-dress-princess
GIF from cleanfunnypics.com

Thank you to my friend Dewey for bringing this mind-blowing stage magic to my attention!  Neither of us knows how it’s done (we were discussing it via Facebook).  But I did discover that this particular transformation comes from the 67th Tony Awards during a special performance from the 2013 Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

It also reminded me of this Disney transformation during a live show at Disneyland Paris:

Video from YouTube.

But this one’s secret is revealed, if you want the magic spoiled for you.

See ya all real soon!

(PS: I apologize for the lack of posting lately!  I planned to do some over this past weekend, while I was home for break, but several reasons led to me not having the time to!  But yes, I'm still alive over here.  Don't worry.)

Happy 90th, Disney!

Today we celebrate the fact that the Walt Disney Company has been creating magic for the entire world for 90 years!

Honestly, I can’t really sum up how happy I am today.  Disney has always been a source of inspiration for me, and I’ve grown up on the music, the characters, and the movies.  Now, as a self-declared Disney Freak, I blog for the online community about one of the few things that continues to cast its spell over me!

Long reign Disney!

Au Revoir Chef Remy!

You shall be sorely missed!

Remy, the pint-sized star of Disney-Pixar’s Ratatouille, finally got his wish to become a chef!  Because at Les Chefs de France, a restaurant at the French pavilion in Epcot, Chef Remy meets his guests as they eat, an appearance brought to life by the animatronic magic of the Disney Imagineers.

Both videos from YouTube.

Isn’t he just adorable?!

But now, according to DisNews, Remy will no longer be meeting his guests after October 24.  No reason has been given.

Reaction: sad day.

Personally, I’m a bit disappointed because I’ve been longing to meet Remy since he first debuted.  Hopefully they’ll bring him back?

Disney Concert Tonight!

This is the news blurb Benedictine College has been sending out via their email newsletter:

Join the BC Chamber Singers and the Concert Chorale for ‘A Night of Disney Magic’ on Saturday, Oct. 5.   The program will feature selections from 5 decades of Disney classic movies, including Beauty and the Beast, It’s a Small World, Hercules, The Lion King and many more.  Performances will be presented at 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. in O’Malley-McAllister Auditorium.   The groups are under the direction of Dr. Sean Teets, and will be accompanied by Laura Moreno, piano, Rachel Gallagher, guitar, and Grace Kirwan, percussion.  Admission is $2 for adults, and $1 for students (5 & up).

I’m so excited to see this tonight!  (Provided I can get off work early enough…)

Poster for the event.
Picture taken by Molly THE Disney Freak.

Literally everyone who knows me and my Disney “Freakness” has been telling me, “Molly, I thought of you when I heard about the Pops Concert!  Are you going?” and I reply, “What kind of question is that?!”

I actually did a really-really-excited-because-I-can’t-wait-to-go dance in Walmart last night…

Reaction: Excited dance!

Tonight, I’ll probably be silently singing along to every word.

“Glow with the Show” at Walt Disney World!

So ya’ll remember how excited I was over the “Glow with the Show” Mickey Mouse ears?

(If you don’t, I’ll give you a moment to click here and here in order to rediscover.)

But guess what?!

The ears are coming to Walt Disney World!

dizzingly good
Reaction: Dizzyingly good.

According to Alt Disney World (follow if you haven’t!), “the light-up hats will debut at Hollywood Studio's Fantasmic show on Oct. 15, the 15th anniversary of the show. A few days later on Oct. 19, they will synchronize with the 'Wishes' fireworks show and 'Celebrate the Magic' show at Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom.”

I think it’s so cool to consider yourself “part of the show” when you wear these ears.  To get an idea of what I mean, check out this video of the crowd at World of Color at Disneyland.

Video from YouTube.

The ears apparently cost $25.  And when a certain girl goes to Disney World next year…she’s buying a pair!

Finally: Our First Real Look at “Frozen”!

And this time, the trailer’s in English!

Ten days ago, I saw on my Facebook feed that a new Frozen trailer (technically the first for us American folks, since we’ve only had a teaser and then international trailers) would be put online today!  So all morning (that’s a lie – all 10 days actually!) I eagerly waited for it to show up.

When I saw The Rotoscopers had posted a link for the trailer, I knew “it is time!”

Behold, the chilling glory of the first English trailer for Frozen!

Video from YouTube.

As always, Elsa looks freaking awesome.

elsa-frozen
She's all like, "Don't come a step closer: I'm the Snow Queen!"

Gah, I love her.
All GIF images from findsomethingtofightfor.tumblr

SHE'S SO FREAKING COOL WHEN SHE "THROWS" THE ICE FORWARD!

Sven is still adorable, of course. Olaf is still the comic relief.

Sven's determined face = love.
Olaf's sledding = laughs.

We finally get to see more of Kristoff, the mountain man who helps Anna.

But the main focus this time around is Anna, our protagonist.  She’s quirky, awkward, clumsy, quick-thinking, funny, an all-around good character.  I loved the little interaction between her and Hans (his horse Sitron is so cute!), and her time with Kristoff looks like it will be quite entertaining indeed.  Oh, and the snowball part – pretty darn funny!

Was it just me or was Anna’s hair white in this scene?

Anna or Elsa?  It's Anna!
What's going on?!
Image from some-girl-who-draws.tumblr.

Why does Anna look like her sister so much in that scene?  We’ll just have to wait till November!

I’m crossing off the days!  How about you?  What did you think of the trailer?

While the movie won’t be released to theaters until November, Disney Store has wasted no time in promoting the newest Disney animated film FrozenAlready they have unveiled the new Frozen merchandise at the online store.

Among the new items are plush toys, like this adorable and fuzzy Sven:

I am definitely getting this, one way or another!

And collectible dolls, like this elegant Elsa:

Not a doll person, but this is gorgeous.

And tons more, especially clothing items and even Elsa and Anna dresses. I know a certain young adult female who wants to dress up in this during the winter:

Or Elsa's costume, but I'd rather trudge though Atchison snow in this.

I’m sorry, but these boots are adorable:

Annie Leibovitz’s Tiana

Two days ago, Disney Parks Blog revealed the newest addition to the Disney Dream Portrait series.  This time, Jennifer Hudson is magically captured as Tiana by Annie Leibovitz.

All credit goes to Disney and Annie Leibovitz.
This scene looks to be Anne's inspiration.

Disney Parks Blog also released this behind-the-scenes look at the photo shoot both on the blog and on their YouTube account.  It’s pretty cool that Jennifer is connected to Disney in so many ways, and that now she gets to portray a Disney Princess!

Video from YouTube.

I’d really like to see how Annie takes the photos and makes them look so magical.  Also, I love the Naveen frog prop!

On a side note, I’m leaving tomorrow for another year of college...  As soon as I feel comfortable with my new schedule, I’ll be up and blogging again.  So expect a short (about a week-long) break here at the Blog!

Until next time, ttfn!

Muppets, Muppets, Muppets!

I grew up watching Sesame StreetI never watched anything else related to the Muppets (though Sesame Street and the Muppets are technically separate from each other).  But last night at Bestie’s house, I watched The Muppet Movie (the 1979 film).  Not to be confused with 2011’s Muppet Movie.

But actually, speaking of Muppet Movie, a lot of the hullabaloo lately has been about its (semi-) sequel: Muppets Most Wanted, which comes out March of next year.  Below is the teaser trailer.

Videos from YouTube.

Yes, Disney owns the Muppets.  Only officially since 2004, but even in the 1980s, “Jim Henson entered discussions with The Walt Disney Company, in which the latter would acquire Jim Henson Productions and in turn, own The Muppets franchise.  However, due to Henson's death in 1990, solid negotiations never materialized” (Wikipedia).

Right before Henson’s death, he and Disney paired up to film The Muppets at Walt Disney World, "part of an awareness campaign to promote the planned merger of The Jim Henson Company with The Walt Disney Company (The Muppet Wiki).

A print ad for the tv special The Muppets at Walt Disney World
Print ad image from vintagehenson.tumblr

As part of The Magical World of Disney, the TV special aired on NBC on May 6, 1990 – literally 10 days before Henson’s death.

The best part of this TV special is when a little girl (played by a young Raven-Symoné) sings “Rainbow Connection” to Kermit to help cheer him up.  “I don’t believe this,” Kermit says.

Image from a Google search.

At the end of the TV special, Kermit takes his Muppet friends to visit Mickey Mouse (animated version, voiced by the brilliant Wayne Allwine), who invites them to put their "names and footprints into the cement...Welcome to the family."  If that doesn’t tell you what was planned for the Muppets, I don’t know what does.

Two of the most iconic characters, together.
