New Disney Channel Logo: Yay or Nay?

Disney Channel is thinking outside of the box with its new logo.

New logo.
Both images from adweek.com article.

Originally, the logo was inside the box and featured the classic Mickey Mouse look.

Old logo.

What do you think of the change?  I don’t really see the need for it, and I always thought the Mickey Mouse ears were cute.

But hey, at least it’s not as scary as McDonald’s new mascot….

‘Big Hero 6’ Teaser Makes You Smile

When I first mentioned Big Hero 6 on this Blog (back in August), I stated how it wasn't my kind of movie. But I added a stand-alone “Yet.”

Now, my “Yet” was right.

Today, the first trailer – a teaser trailer to be exact – made me smile and laugh.  Overall, it intrigued me, and I know when November rolls around, I’ll be excited for Big Hero 6!

Here's the synopsis, as provided by Disney (and taken from IMDB):

Brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo.  (Molly's note: yes, that is a combination of the two cities you're thinking of.)  With the help of his closest companion, a robot named Baymax, Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.

Baymax is the robot we meet in this teaser, and I'm in love with him already -- especially when he chased that soccer ball!

Your thoughts?

‘Cinderella’ Teaser Trailer Reveals…Not Much

Five days ago, Disney released the teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action retelling of Cinderellaand unfortunately, we don’t get to see much of the actual film.

Video from YouTube.

As I've mentioned before, teaser trailers aren't really meant to give much of the film’s plot away, just to attract initial audience attention.  Still, this one couldn't be more boring – great, a glass slipper.

I do like the butterfly touch, though.

Tell me something I don’t know.

To be honest, I’m not really excited for this movie at all.  There are so many retellings of the Cinderella story that it’s kind of become old and repetitive.  A look at the plot suggests similarity to Ever After, starring Drew Barrymore.

What will make this retelling different?

That’s what I’d like to know, Disney.

Disney Parks is on Snapchat!

The Most Magical Place on Earth and the Happiest Place on Earth are now both on Snapchat!

Disneyland and Disney World will be “snapping” pictures from the all-nighter event this weekend, taking place on both sides of the coast.  This is the third year Disneyland and Disney World have held simultaneous all-nighter events.

The theme this year is Rock Your Disney Side, with guests being encouraged to dress up as their favorite villain or hero character.

On their respective Facebook pages, Disneyland and Disney World both shared these step-by-step graphics to help fans connect with them on Snapchat.  Here are the images from Disney World's Facebook page.

To add Disneyland on Snapchat, just search "disneyland" instead.

For more details about the Rock Your Disney Side event, check out these posts on the Disney Parks Blog.

First Look at Harambe Theatre

The cast of Festival of the Lion King recently visited their soon-to-be-open new home, the Harambe Theatre, in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom.

Here’s a video provided by Disney Parks Blog highlighting the new theatre building, with glimpses of backstage areas.

Video from YouTube.

Kind of weird to see the elephant, giraffe, Pumbaa and Simba animatronics so still and silent...but I liked how Pumbaa was trying to get a word in at the end!

Animal Kingdom: New Nighttime Show and More!

Animal Kingdom is currently under its biggest expansion yet.  While the highlight of the expansion is adding Avatar Land (yep, I’m not kidding), there are other things coming to the park, including a new nighttime show and the return of Festival of the Lion King.

A Disney Parks Blog post earlier this month announced that the new nighttime spectacular “’Rivers of Light’ promises to be an innovative show unlike anything ever seen in Disney Parks, combining live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery. The show will magically come to life on the broad, natural stage of the Discovery River, between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest, delighting our guests and truly capping off a full day of adventures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.”

While the new show sounds similar to World of Color or Fantasmic!, it does remind me of Brother Bear, based on the artist’s concept below.

In June, the live show Festival of the Lion King will return to Animal Kingdom, this time to a new location in the Africa section of the park.

And finally, my agent Jennifer Hardy posted that Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade will have its last run on May 31st, after 12 years.  No replacement parade has been announced.

The Seven Dwarf Mine Train!

These past few days have been very important for New Fantasyland.  The media was invited to a special event to cover the Seven Dwarf Mine Train, during which there was a special dedication as well as chances to ride the new attraction.

Image from filmic-light.blogspot.com

At the dedication ceremony, it was announced the official opening  will be May 28th this year.

Meaning, it’ll be open by the time I go!

Until then, there may be a few soft openings.

Inside the Magic posted this video of the dedication.

Both videos from YouTube.

Of course, I had to interview my very own Seven Dwarfs to see what there thoughts were on the newest attraction in New Fantasyland…and here’s what they said!

The Disney Freak’s Blog original video. And yes, they are speaking Japanese. Totally legit Japanese.

Translation, anyone?
