Finally: Our First Real Look at “Frozen”!

And this time, the trailer’s in English!

Ten days ago, I saw on my Facebook feed that a new Frozen trailer (technically the first for us American folks, since we’ve only had a teaser and then international trailers) would be put online today!  So all morning (that’s a lie – all 10 days actually!) I eagerly waited for it to show up.

When I saw The Rotoscopers had posted a link for the trailer, I knew “it is time!”

Behold, the chilling glory of the first English trailer for Frozen!

Video from YouTube.

As always, Elsa looks freaking awesome.

Gah, I love her.
All GIF images from findsomethingtofightfor.tumblr

SHE'S SO FREAKING COOL WHEN SHE "THROWS" THE ICE FORWARD!

Sven is still adorable, of course. Olaf is still the comic relief.

Sven's determined face = love.
Olaf's sledding = laughs.

We finally get to see more of Kristoff, the mountain man who helps Anna.

But the main focus this time around is Anna, our protagonist.  She’s quirky, awkward, clumsy, quick-thinking, funny, an all-around good character.  I loved the little interaction between her and Hans (his horse Sitron is so cute!), and her time with Kristoff looks like it will be quite entertaining indeed.  Oh, and the snowball part – pretty darn funny!

Was it just me or was Anna’s hair white in this scene?

Anna or Elsa?  It's Anna!
What's going on?!

Why does Anna look like her sister so much in that scene?  We’ll just have to wait till November!

I’m crossing off the days!  How about you?  What did you think of the trailer?

The New Prince is Born!

It isn’t every day that a young prince is born, you know.

One of Walt’s most celebrated classics, Bambi celebrates its 71st anniversary today!

Who doesn’t love the memorable animated classic about a young deer’s journey through life, love, and loss?

To celebrate, here are some of my favorite moments from the film.  Of course, it would be best to just link to the entire film, but I can’t – even so, I included many moments below!

Maximus’ Makeover

One time as I was chilling with Minnie Disney Freak and Young Disney Freak, I realized a certain horse had gotten a makeover.

Wow, I Wish I Could Speak Whale…

I love Ellen.

She’s one of the few comedians who can make me genuinely laugh out loud.

And the best part?

She plays my probably absolute favorite Pixar character: Dory.

Speaking of Dory, doesn’t she know (or has she forgotten?) how to speak whale?

Video from YouTube. I laughed my head off when I first saw this!

Ellen recently shared (below) this online video on her show – a video of two killer whales following a whale-watching boat.  It’s pretty unbelievable.

And the only connection it has to do with Disney is Ellen herself…and her short whale-speak.

Enjoy!

Guess Who’s Excited for ‘Finding Dory’?!

None other than Dory herself!

tumblr_mkp1wm9Mb31qj4315o1_500
Wahoo!
Gif image from gurl.tumblr

Surprised?  Well, Dory’s probably already forgotten about it, so to be honest, I think Ellen may be even more excited.  Check out this video of her sharing the news on her show.

Video from YouTube. Absolutely hilarious. And I am disappointed P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way doesn’t exist at Sydney.

If you’re slow at getting your Disney news (and I admit, sometimes I am too!), Finding Dory is the 2015 sequel to Pixar’s successful film Finding Nemo.  All I know so far is that the sequel will (obviously) focus on Dory, about a year after the first film, with Dory learning some lessons about family.  We’ll learn why she was alone when Marlin found her, and this time the movie will take place along the California coastline.

After years and years of asking Disney and Pixar for a sequel, Ellen said:

"’I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,…I'm not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating 'Toy Story 16.' But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It's got a lot of heart, it's really funny, and the best part is -- it's got a lot more Dory.”’
(Saad, Nardine. “Ellen DeGeneres rides tidal wave of excitement over 'Finding Dory'” Latimes.com.  Los Angeles Times, 3 Apr 2013. Web. 3 Apr. 2013)

Surprisingly, I am really excited for the new movie too.  As I shared via Facebook, at first I didn’t get it – Nemo’s been found, what could a sequel possibly be about? – but once I learned that Dory is taking center stage for the sequel, I got excited!  Who doesn’t love Dory (or Ellen, for that matter)?  Seriously she’s my favorite character from the film.  As long as it’s a decent sequel (so yes, I am a bit hesitant, as always), I will be super pumped for 2015!

Image from Google search.

But the big question is, who’s ready for this?

Yeah, Ellen, too soon.  Too soon.

ttfn!  Just keep swimming today!

The Great and Powerful Oz: A Review

I’m late, I’m late for a quite important date.

Before I begin, I just have one little note.  This post is a simple review of the movie that just came out: Oz the Great and Powerful.  Later, I plan to do a second post which WILL contain SPOILERS because it will discuss in great detail what I didn’t like and why.

And so without further ado, let’s take a peek at the movie behind the curtain…

Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a carnival magician known as Oz, wants to be a great man. Not just a good man, but a great one. But when he accidently lands in Oz, he is taken to be a great Wizard who will fulfill a certain prophecy and become king. Oscar sees his chance to become the man he’s always wanted to be, complete with mountain-high piles of gold in the Royal Oz Treasury. But there’s a catch to the prophecy: he has to kill the Wicked Witch (with three possible candidates: Evanora, Theodora, and Glinda). In trying to figure out the three witches and learning to help others besides himself, Oscar learns that, though it may seem impossible, there can be something even greater than greatness itself.

The Great and Powerful

I have to hand it to the special effects team: the special effects they created are simply breathtaking and extremely realistic.  As I’ve stated before, you really do feel as if you are in the Land of Oz, an otherworldly realm where everything is bizarre and brilliant.  However, it seems sometimes that the movie was just a way for some special effects guys to show off their skills – sure, the scenery is beautiful, but did you have to focus on everything Oscar/Oz passed by as he floated along in one of Glinda’s bubble creations?

Obviously, in 1939, the special effects we have now didn’t exist, so of course everything in Oz the Great and Powerful is much more realistic than The Wizard of Oz.

Speaking of The Wizard of Oz, the new movie does try to connect itself (but not perfectly) to the classic.  As evident in the trailers, the movie moves from colorless to colorful (Technicolor), giving a nod to the classic.  There are also cameos of two of Dorothy’s beloved companions, with hints to the third’s “creators.”

There also is lots of humor in the movie, and if I remember correctly, it was all family-friendly humor, something Disney usually excels in.

The Wicked

(Note: these are my observations.  Keep in mind that I am a bit of a coward when it comes to startling movies.  It is your choice whether or not children should see this movie.)

Though the Land of Oz has its beauty, it also has its scary, and this Oz is a lot darker than the one Judy visited.

There are quite a few intense scenes as Oscar/Oz begins his search for the Wicked Witch.  And many times you hear the (off-screen) screaming of the Witch’s flying monkeys as they pass through, but you don’t see them until later in the film.  And when you do, that takes place during another intense and spooky scene in a graveyard.

Speaking of those flying monkeys, these aren’t the furry little guys you remember from Margaret Hamilton’s service.  (No, that furry little guy would be Finley, a random flying monkey who helps Oscar/Oz.)  Instead, these flying monkeys are more like really creepy flying baboons, complete with sharp teeth.

Their boss, the green Wicked Witch, is not quite as wicked or scary as Margaret Hamilton was.  In fact (and I’ll try to avoid spoilers here), the Wicked Witch of the West almost seemed over the top in this movie, especially her first (shadow) appearance.

Lastly, and this may not seem to important, but it is worth noting that Oscar/Oz is portrayed as a womanizer, and little children could be a bit confused.  It’s up to you.

Overall, I’d wait till it comes out on DVD or Blu-ray if you really want to see it.  I gave it 2/5 Mickey Mouse Heads (in place of stars – I thought it was clever!).

DD

The….Disney?

One random thing, but there is a point where one character offers another character a green apple to eat, and I did roll my eyes at the very familiar scene.

See you all real soon.  Probably not in the Land of Oz unfortunately, even though I’m in Kansas, but I think the state of Disney is a pretty awesome alternative.

Bubble Travel: Who Knew, Right?

Yes, I am referring to one of my favorite quotes from the fabulous movie Tangled.

However, that is not what this post will be about.  (Sorry, Tangled fans!  I do have some stuff for you eventually!)

Nope, today we’re going to look at a new trailer for….well…this is hard for me to say….
Disney’s upcoming motion picture Oz the Great and Powerful.

Before I say anything stupid, watch the trailer.

Video from YouTube.

Okay, so now here’s where I have to tell you everything I think about this movie, especially the trailer, that moment you all have been waiting for, right?  (And speaking of this, don’t you want
to know someone’s full opinions on the Maleficent movie, coming in 2014?)

Well, once again, I’m going to dodge the bullet.

Instead, I’m going to save my actual opinionated post for closer to the release date for Oz, aka
March 8th this year.  Which luckily falls during my Spring Break.  So yes, I’m planning to go.

So what I am going to say is….

While I’m not really looking forward to this movie and am a bit hesitant about it, I will admit the scenery and images are really amazing.  You really do feel as if you’re floating through Oz alongside the Wizard.  All those emerald things?  Simply breathtaking.

The emerald (obviously alluding to the emerald city, which at first
I thought it was) spikes.
Screencapture by THE Disney Freak from included video.
The "signature" was a feature on the program I used that I messed around with;
tell me what you guys think of it.  Use or abandon?

Oh, and who is that china-looking doll?

But that’s all I got for you today.

See you all real soon.

Watch and Fall in Love

It’s that time of year again.

That time of year when you hear love songs in the air.  When you feel your someday might be today.  That day when you become a hero in love’s name (for the link, skip to 0:44 for the scene).  When you have that once upon a dream encounter.  That day when you finally believe fairytales do come true.

When you become “twitterpated.”

And just in time for this time of year (namely, Valentine’s Day – which has taken over all of February and just about all of January too), Disney has released its full-length short Paperman online for our viewing pleasure.

To introduce the video, it’s short but brilliant, wordless but charming, black and white but timeless.

Share it with someone you love today.

Video from YouTube.

Happy Valentine’s Day, and I’ll see you all real soon.

Twitterpated. Ha.

***UPDATE***

So yesterday, I found out my RA is just in love with this short as I am, and after talking about it with her this evening, I went to this post here to watch it with her.  Sadly, we both discovered the video is now private.  (Sorry for those just checking out this post!)  While I haven't discovered what the reason for this is, I have discovered it's not just my computer -- Wikipedia has the short listed as private.

***UPDATE***

For those of you who haven't seen the video yet or want to watch it again but can't, I found it uploaded by someone else.  Enjoy.

Annie Leibovitz’s Rapunzel

Just today, the Disney Parks Blog released the newest portrait for the “Disney Parks‘ ongoing Disney Dream Portrait series” (the Disney Parks Blog post).  In short, this series is of different Disney characters portrayed by familiar celebrities for Disney Parks ads (e.g., I found one in an issue of O, The Oprah Magazine).  The portraits are all taken by the spectacularly-skilled photographer Annie Leibovitz.  I’m hoping to eventually get a post out of all the portraits, probably as soon as the series is over (will that happen?).

Note how I said “portrayed by familiar celebrities.”  Usually these celebrities are well-known actors and actresses.  But it seems Disney has decided to include singers.

You’ll see what I’m getting at.

Just Another Off Day

The Disney Mermaid texted me today to tell me about Young Disney Freak and her growing Disney vocab: just had to share.

Note: I edited TDM's texts because I wanted to keep this...professional.

Before dinner, I received her first text:

Young Disney Freak and I were counting for hide and seek when YDF says, "Let's start over.  This is kind of an off day for me."  And I was laughing before I asked, "What did you say?"  So she said it again, added, "From Tangled!" then burst out giggling.

I began to laugh out loud, right outside the Cafeteria!  I have no idea if anyone looked at me, like last time when I laughed at something Disney-related.

She texted me again:

Then I should tell you [because you'll put this on the Blog] that she was sassy when she said it: "You know?  From Tangled?" like I was dumb or something!  Young Disney Freak is teaching The Disney Mermaid!  Even though I knew where it was from.

Can you picture a three-year-old saying that?  I sure can.

Her last text read:

We were playing follow the leader next (today is just full of Disney).  Every time I said, "This is kind of an off day for me," she'd pause, turn around, stare at me, and then burst out laughing.  It was so funny and all-around cute.

Young Disney Freak's tag line: Gotta love.

Kind of hard not to.

ttfn!  Hope you smiled or chuckled or laughed as much as I did.

(PS: Agh, the Internet and my computer do not get along well!)

I See the Light

A friend of mine also graduated this year.  And here in Minnesota, there are these things called "Open Houses."  Supposedly they're to celebrate the graduate's successful graduation without dying (high school is tough these days, you know!).  To be honest, it's more of a free food fest ("So how do you know the graduate?"  "What? Oh, we're just here for the food."--no that doesn't really happen).

Well, this particular friend of mine happens to be extremely cool and came up with a fantastic idea to end her Open House.

Floating lanterns.

(Does not come with matching Flynn and Rapunzel.)

The Beast and I, being introverts, discussed whether or not we wanted to stay to see the lanterns.  Good thing we did!

At the appointed time (9:30 I believe), everyone was called over to the side yard, where there was more room.  Various kids held unlit lanterns by the strings attached.

Yes, the lanterns weren't really going to float up into the sky as in Tangled.  The idea was to hold onto the (invisible) string, making the lantern like a kite.

(Or was that the idea?)

Breathe, Myself, Breathe...

It's official.

Brave opens tonight at midnight because then it will be tomorrow.
Picture from the Disney Wiki.

To put it plain and simple, it opens tomorrow, Friday the 22nd of June.

I can't tell you how excited I am!

I went from casually learning about the movie via the Disney Wiki, being curious, creating a blog, learning a ton more, and becoming to excited to be unable to tell you just how excited I am.

To put in less words, it seems like so long ago we were just learning about it and then waiting for the release date.  And now it's about to be here.  Literally!

While I will not be able to make it to the premiere because I don't personally have any money at the moment, MMM is "considering" taking me this weekend to see it.

To end this post:

"If you had the chance to change your Fate, would you?"

Today in Disney History...

The Lion King came out to theaters (to a limited audience--critics and such).  That marks today as its 18th anniversary!

The beginning....
Picture from a photoset from lionkingfreak.tumblr.com post.

And you know what's the best part?

It's my favorite Disney movie!

And it came out the same year as when I was born, only about a month early.

Excuse me while I go and celebrate.

By watching it.

Long live the king of movies.

...and the end.
Picture from same source as previous picture.

Glow with the Show -- Literally!

Disney always does crazy things with the newest technology.

Awhile back, they debuted the show "World of Color."  And now they're adding to the show!

I'm not referring to the new Brave section in the show, though that is pretty cool.

I'm referring to some pretty neat Mickey Mouse ears that will glow with the show -- literally!

To understand what I mean, this video below gives you an idea.  All those glowing things right in front of the camera?  Mickey Mouse ears...ears!

That's right.  With these new ears, the wearer takes part in "World of Color!"

The ears before they start to glow!
Picture from the Disney Parks Blog.
But they glow!
Picture from simplydisneyariel.tumblr.com post.
Picture originally from butacinamo.tumblr.com post.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, "Now, using the latest interactive technology, our newest ear hats will quite literally let you 'Glow with the Show.'  Watch as the iridescent ears change to complement and harmonize with what’s happening around you, allowing you to become a part of the magic of our nighttime spectaculars, such as 'World of Color' and Mad T Party. But that’s not all – there are lots of surprises in store when you visit Disney California Adventure park with Glow with the Show Ears, so I’ll let you discover them for yourself!"

And as you saw in the video, "the Glow with the Show Ears become a set of pixels that dance and play along with each sequence in ‘World of Color’ in a bright and dynamic way. For example, during the show, guests become part of the ocean with the Little Mermaid, a shining galaxy of stars for WALL-E and Eve, an extension of the Genie’s magic in ‘Friend Like Me,’ among other interactive explosions of color throughout the entire show. It truly brings the show’s environment out of the lagoon and into the audience in an amazing and dazzling new way" (Disney Parks Blog)!

Now, the question is, where do I buy?

See ya all real soon!

***UPDATE***

Sorry for the incorrect source information under the glowing ears.  Hope this clears everything up.  I got it from one source, but it originally came from another.

I'm Gonna Wreck It!

I know.  I'm late.

For a very important date.

But after seeing it on The Disney Den, I had to do a post on the first trailer for Wreck-it Ralph, even though I promised a post on it when the trailer would first come out.  Sorry!

I have to say, once I realized other video game characters were going to be in this movie, I got a lot more excited.  At first, I was like a bit...judgemental and didn't feel quite ready to get excited for this movie.  But now, after seeing this trailer (and especially Bowser!) I'm actually really looking forward to this movie.

And echoing what Sara said, this is the originality that we're looking for in a Disney movie.

However, that's just a tad unfair.

Because Disney has done some incredible work retelling fairy tale stories.  Just saying.

But I do appreciate it when they create an original story that looks like it's going to do well.

Oh, and one thing that kind of annoyed me though was that Fix-it Felix really really reminded me of Bob the Builder.  And Bob's annoying motto.  That I had to live through with a younger brother.

But Hey, We All Love Disney Trivia!

Speaking of other video game characters, did you catch all the cameos?

The support group for bad guys...love it.
Did you catch any cameos here?  Of course you did!  But did
you know all of them?
Picture from Wreck-it Ralph Facebook page.

Well, this article gives you a look into all the characters that appeared in the trailer...who aren't from Disney!  Enjoy!!

National Pet Week: Cat

I've shared with you that I own a dog.  (Smiley) Riley (Wiley) is his name.  But to be very very honest, I am a huge dog person, not just evident in that I own a dog, but because I love every breed (except for Pekingese.  I just...don't like them).

I am not a cat person.

Not really.

I mean, I do like Bestie's cats.  And I did have a tabby cat with the planned name of Toby waiting for me at Pet Ranch before it closed.

Overall, though, I don't really like cats.

They think they're all that.  Stop petting me: I'll nip you.  Dogs usually don't do that.  So I prefer dogs.

However, some Disney characters think otherwise.  And that leads us into our cat spotlight for National Pet Week!

Since I "chose" the dog "spotlighter" (is that a word?  Spell-check doesn't like it), I asked The Disney Mermaid the first Disney character when I said a word.  "Cat."

"The cat from Alice in Wonderland."

Great.  I haven't seen that movie since I was like really really little (MMM says we weren't allowed to watch it since the Cheshire Cat creeped us out).  So I wasn't sure what to share with you.

Luckily, the second character she had thought of were the cats from The Aristocats.  So....

You chose to do her instead of me?
Meow?
Picture from the Disney Wiki.

Now we'll do our spotlight.

National Pet Week: Dog

Happy National Pet Week!

That's right: this week is when we celebrate all those little and sometimes big guys who put smiles on our faces, make us feel loved, and know all our secrets.  (Because, admit it, you talk to your pets.)

I will join all you pet-owners in celebrating!

I have a dog named Riley.

My beautiful boy, Riley (Wiley)!
He's actually a reddish brown color.
His breed is Shiba Inu.
Picture taken by and copyright THE Disney Freak.

To start off National Pet Week (though I'm two three days late, forgive me), I thought I'd do a post on some of the dogs in the world of Disney.  This will be similar to my post "Year of the Disney Dragon."  Which, by the way, continues to be the most popular post of all time!

However, if you look at the page on the Disney Wikia on all these dogs, you'll find an overwhelming amount.  So after much debate, I've decided to focus on only one dog today, as well as just one cat tomorrow, one bird after that, and so forth.  I'll try to cover as many types of pets as I can!

And who did I decide to spotlight?

Bruno.

DisneyTales!

The other day, MINnIe Disney Freak got to pick out a movie to watch.  She chose VeggieTales.

The episode Very Silly Songs! in fact.

It's been awhile understandably since I've watched this movie, but the songs are like Disney songs: they stick with you for awhile!

Well, we got to the song "Dance of the Cucumber."  In this song, Larry the Cucumber is dancing around in a sombrero, singing in Spanish.  Bob the Tomato translates.

Eventually, Bob realizes Larry is making fun of him in Spanish:

Larry: "!Pobre tomate!"
Bob: "Poor tomato!"
Larry: "El deberia poder bailar"
Bob: "He wishes he could dance"
Larry: "Como el pepino"
Bob: "like the cucumber"
Larry: "libre y suavemente."
Bob: "free and smooth."
Larry: "Pero el no puede danzar."
Bob: "But he can't ... Okay! Stop the music! What do ya mean I can't
dance? I can dance! What about Uncle Louie's polka party? Didn't you see
me dancing at Uncle Louie's polka party?"

(Lyrics from ST Lyrics - great site!)

Right about here, after Larry refuses to listen to Bob ("No comprendo," he says), Junior Asparagus appears.  He asks that his dad get a picture of him and the dancing cucumber.

And also right about here, I paused, staring at Junior.

He's got Mickey Mouse ears on!

Disney reference!

Makes your day, doesn't it?

Well, anyway, that's really all I have to share with you.  Junior and his parents are dressed as Disney tourists, and the "Seven Dwarfs" make an appearance chasing after Junior's mom: "I think the dwarfs have your mother confused with someone else!"

The dwarfs run by very quickly, with only really their hats visible.  Impossible to tell which ones as only a few run by.

The Disney Mermaid turns to me after the reference finishes and says, "You've got to put that in your blog."

So here it is.

See ya all real soon!

(If you're wondering, the song first appeared in the episode Rack, Shack, and Benny.  Wikipedia's article mentions this scene.)

Could...Could It Be?

The Disney Princess, a tumblr blog, has shared photos of what looks to be the new Merida at Disney Parks!
Merida?
Got bow?
All pictures from The Disney Princess.
Those eyes...gorgeous!
And that hair...is it too perfect to be real?
Disney announced they preferred someone
from Scotland with actual curly red
hair but had wigs if needed...
Your takes?
Full-length...
"Mum tries taming my wild mop of hair,
but I like it just as it is."
Another missing bow?

Could it be?

I can't wait to meet her!  I know I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm thinking Merida's going to turn out to be one pretty cool character.

***UPDATE***

Yes it is!  The Disney Blog just shared videos of Merida being spotted in Epcot for her soft opening.  I haven't watched the videos quite yet, but I will do soon and post them with my thoughts in a different post later today!

Can You Keep a Secret?

Hope you're okay with "potty" mouth.  I mean, 3-year-old potty mouth.  You'll see what I'm getting at.

So this happened literally less than five minutes ago, and I just had to share!

My little baby sister, 3-years-old, and I were eating some right-before-dinner snacks (small ones!) when she realized she had to go to the bathroom.  She's been potty trained for awhile now, but I was still sort of surprised she didn't need any help.  Only a few days ago, she did -- which included basically just standing nearby really.

So halfway through I'm waiting for the flush when she pops, er waddles out, dress tucked into her underwear and pants at the bottom of her legs.

"What are you doing?"

"I need help with my pants."

Of course, being the good elder sibling I am, I headed over there and helped.  "Wash your hands and flush, okay?"

"I know," she says in that matter-of-fact, but adorable, voice (because 3-year-olds know everything!).

So I sit back down and wait for the flush.

She finally gets around to it, but then again she pops out, smiling.

"Did you wash your hands?" I ask, looking down at her as she's come over to stand by my chair.

"No, not yet," she says and leans forward, like she's going to whisper in my ear.  I reel backwards.

"I have to tell you a secret."

"Well, just don't touch me, okay?  Your hands are gross."  And I lean back down.

After attempting to push my hair away from my ear, she pulls her hand back as I do it myself (her hands are gross, remember?)  "I went p--p in the potty," she whispers.

(There, I'll do some censoring for you.  Does that make this a clean G-rated post?)

I nod, straightening.  "Did you?  Good job.  Now go wash your hands."

Off she goes.

So I sit there again and wait for the running water.

When it stops, she comes back out and heads right for me again.  Another secret?  You bet.  I lean down, but she tucks back my hair this time (she washed them, okay?).

"I killed Mufasa."

"Nooo!" I scream.  "Murderer!"

She laughs, and we do it again.  And again.  And again.

Young Disney Freak.  Gotta love.
